Reusable Silicone Food Bags - Your questions answered!

For those of you who have never tried reusable food bags, you may be wondering how they work.  They really are such an easy eco swap, if you are trying to move away from plastic 'ziploc' bags and cling film.

Here are your most frequent questions about reusable food bags answered...

Are silicone bags safe?

Silicone is very much safe to use with food and drink. So you can easily buy silicone products that are designed to be used in cooking, baking and food storage. Our FDA approved Silicone freezer bags are completely plastic free. This means no exposure to the chemicals found in plastic and no BPA. Our thick silicone bags are super strong, durable and resistant to tearing. Food-grade silicone is safe to store food, put in the microwave, freezer, oven, and dishwasher.

Are silicone bags eco friendly?

Our reusable bags are super eco-friendly. They save money and waste and help to reduce the amount of plastic in landfill and oceans. It can be recycled, and it doesn’t degrade into small pieces, which makes it ocean-friendly. Since it is plastic-free, it doesn't contribute to plastic pollution.  Keep your produce fresher for longer or use them for storing leftovers.

Are silicone bags better than plastic?

Silicone is generally considered safe to use and much less likely to cause harm to human health than plastic. Silicone is highly durable and more ocean friendly than plastic. Silicone, which is made from silica found in sand, is much longer lasting than plastic in the environment as well as while being used in products.

Can silicone bags go in dishwasher?

Our Silicone bags are dishwasher proof and easy to clean. You can either hand wash or pop in the dishwasher when needed.

Are silicone bags freezer safe?

Silicone bags are fridge and freezer proof.  Our silicone pouches are slimline so you don't have to worry about them taking up too much room.  They are also transparent so you can see what's inside. Can silicone bags be used for cooking?

The beauty of our platinum grade silicone bags, is that they can withstand heat and cold. You can use your bags for cooking, either in the microwave, oven or sous vide cooking. Perfect for storing soup or leftovers, smoothies and snacks.

How to label silicone bags?                

You may find it easier to label your items or food products in your silicone bags, you can either stick a label on or use a washable pen marker for labelling contents if needed, we prefer to use a washable pen as they can be easily washed off each time.

How to clean silicone bags?

They can be washed just like any other dish or kitchen tool, with soap and water. If washing by hand be sure not to use an abrasive sponge or scrubber, this could potentially damage the bags. To avoid any mould building up anywhere, make sure you pay attention to crumbs and debris in the corners of the bag or in the creases.

When putting them through the dishwasher make sure you place them upside down with the seal open to allow the water to get inside. It is not recommended to try turning them inside out, this could eventually cause damage to the bags.

How to dry silicone bags?

We recommend air drying by leaving open over an upside down glass or cup before placing them away so they don't get mildew. There is no harm in giving them a little wipe down with a kitchen towel, however avoid types that will leave little fibres stuck on the bags.
